In 2003, the outer sand town was identified as a pilot project for technological innovation of specialized towns in Guangdong province. In 2004, it was awarded the "Chinese sweater town" by the National Federation of textile and garment industry of China. In 2006, Guangdong was designated as the demonstration zone for the upgrading of the outer sand tide weaving process.

However, with the shrinking of the foreign trade market in recent years and the rapid rise of e-commerce, tidal wool weaving industry has been greatly impacted and faced with a larger development bottleneck.
