In 2008, Thailand was the eleventh largest producer of fiber / filament (including cotton) in the world, and the tenth largest consumer in the world.

In those days, Thailand produced about 868000 tons of fiber / filament and consumed about 930000 tons.

Globally, Thailand can be considered as one of the main participants in the viscose staple industry, though the domestic polyester industry is larger than the viscose industry.

In terms of supply, Thailand ranked sixth in the world in 2008, and the fourth largest exporter of viscose staple fibres.

In terms of polyester, Thailand is the seventh largest filament yarn producing country and the eighth largest staple production country.

In terms of demand, Thailand ranks tenth in polyester filament yarn and cotton consumption.


In 1990s, the output of Thailand's Rayon / filament was very large, increasing by 16% annually.

However, in the 2000-2007 Years, the growth rate dropped to slightly above 1%, and the decline in 2008 was even more intense.

Polyester production (the main product of synthetic fiber / filament) decreased by 5% in 2008.

Viscose fiber production decreased by 16% in the year, as global economic growth slowed down.

The only comfort is nylon production has increased by 40%.

The output of acrylic staple fell by 24%.
