Western Europe constitutes the major textile countries, such as Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain and France, accounting for 3.3% of global fiber / filament production, accounting for 4.4% of global consumption.

Western Europe is the main production area of all fibers / filaments.

In 2008, it accounted for 8% of the world's acrylic production, while 17% of viscose staple fibers and filaments in the world were produced in Western Europe.

In terms of nylon, Western Europe accounts for 12% of global output, accounting for 2% of global polyester production.


Western Europe is a net importer of man-made fibres, accounting for 13% of Global trade. In 2008, 1 million 680 thousand tons of man-made fiber / filament imported from Western Europe imported 190000 tons of cotton.

Western Europe is also a major cotton importer, consuming about 1.3% of the world's cotton.
