So far this month, about 2000000 workers in Vietnam's clothing and textile sector have been laid off or reduced their working hours, reducing wages. This is due to a sharp decline in orders due to global recession.

Close to 70% of clothing and textile exports were reported by commercial units from major export markets, such as the US and EU orders, which the Vietnamese textile and clothing association (Vitas) reported.

In 2009, Vietnam's clothing and textile sector predicted that it would face difficulties, the Vietnam textile and clothing association said.

Although the Vietnamese government recently introduced policies to support them, export business units did not receive orders from traditional buyers in the import market.

Vietnam textile and clothing association said that the expansion of export promotion to new markets is the priority issue of Vietnam's export sector in this period; the markets in Russia, Africa and the Middle East are the target market.
